To the people of the Blue-Foot Tribe, the male born with the brightest feet is next to assume the title of Head Chief and tribe leader. That is Azu. Kind-hearted and gentle, Azu is a natural at everything he does. He quickly excelled at hunting and path-finding at the age of seven, and was trained to become the strongest fighter. He's very quiet and slow to anger, never wanting to settle an issue with violence as the first option. However, as a skilled warrior, he will not hesitate to fight if absolutely necessary. He is betrothed to a beautiful village girl named T'eel.

Born to an African-American mother and a Caucasian father, Roja is somewhat of an outcast amongst her peers. She was often made fun of for her light complexion, which always broke her mother's heart. Even as she got older, her peers never took her seriously, despite her exceptional skills. Don't let her beauty and seemingly docile appearance fool you; her temper is easily flared and she can be both stubborn and bossy (a trait shared by all Red Foots). She's also very competitive, which is a result of her always having to prove herself worthy of respect. Roja eventually develops deep feelings for Azu, something she doesn't want to admit.
